On the Double...

05.01.08

Lots has happened here since we last updated our site. The April 20th Show at the Fox was a total success; a complete multimedia download to a sold out crowd. From coordinating 7 guests flying in from out of state, designing & building the stage, lights, and projection decor, to creating a live collaboration of all-original content, involving no less than 22 performers in Audiovisual Artforms & Dance. The new doors and possibilities that opened that night really left me astonished. For real, GSP , Goddess Alchemy, Emilio, Aima, Janet, Souleye, Lynx, Greg Harris, Big HOUSE & E.Z., Dominic, Pretty Lights, Savoy & everyone else, so much respect to you for representing. Special thanks to Akayate, Andy Cass & Crew, Todd from Cypher13, Ink Monstr, and Anthem for helping bring the theatrical production into reality, and we're really stoked to have had the opportunity to promote our Humanitarian and Youth Advocacy Families, Conscious Alliance, and Ruckus Roots through this event, and the intention behind Freestyle Movement is to promote this powerful union of conscious multimedia arts and global awareness and action.

WIth the weather warming up are a lot of exciting ventures for our growing studio, with upcoming projects & performances, the latter which are kept up-to-date on FsM's MYSPACE page. GSP & The Freestyle Movement are officially booked for Colorado's notorious Sonic Bloom Festival amongst others, and an announcement in this month's Juxtapoz Magazine signaled the next opportunity for sAne to show paintings. A group show at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco will be taking place starting June 5th. If you're in the area it's probably worth a look, as the line-up leaves me pretty humbled, like I'm actually in this show!!?? We're even hosting a pretty dope opening night party that has yet to be announced, but I'm pretty sure will include the likes of Eliot Lipp's new collaboration with Alex B (my house Mate) and Lane from Pnuma, and FreestyleMVT VJ set. Can you say Whaaaaaaa!? Big Ups to ArtNOWSF and Kris D for this one..

Phew. So that's about it for now, I'll probably have to update this entry again at some point, so check back from time to time.

GSP & Freestyle Movement Live at the Fox Theater!

04.16.08

This sunday, April 20th, we are proud to announce our very first Audiovisual installation at Boulder's Fox Theater. Freestyle Movement is Co-producing the show, and coordinating the visual aspects of the show including live video composition on custom designed screens, costume designs & stage performance with Akayate, and a set designed in collaboration with Todd from Cypher 13 design firm. Our music lineup is impressive, with over 16 guests performing that night, including a debut beat showcase by sAne (Shade-Grown Beets)
We are also partnering with Conscious Alliance and Ruckus Roots, two organizations for great humanitarian efforts, and a specially designed poster by sAne will be available for 10 non-perishable food donations at their information booth at the Venue.

Oh, did we mention we're going all night?

"Praying Mantis" Live Visual Set Feat. Akayate

03.19.08

We have a new short promo video featuring the expanded GSP Audiovisual set with Akayate. We performed this live at GSP studios during a recording session for a film that we're going to be featured in. While it's too early to discuss the nature of the film/documentary at this time, we did manage to get the first ever footage of Akayate and I's stage performance in real-time, and we hope you enjoy our interpretation of the GSP original "Praying Mantis".

An old on but a good one, I worked on this piece with TeeBee in between trips last summer. It hung as part of TeeBee's solo installation at the Ins+allation shop. Being out of town, I missed the opening and never got a chance to see the finished piece before it sold but I'm glad TeeBee got a picture of it!

"UBUNTU" Fundraiser for Orphanage in South Africa

03.14.08

A few months ago, I received a heartfelt letter from my friend Elena, who just came back from an influential trip working with children in an orphanage in South Africa. She organized a benefit event happening this saturday, and asked Freestyle Movement to come support in any way possible, so I am putting together a special VJ set featuring images provided to me by Elena. If you're around please come thru the Red Fish and show your appreciation for a great cause.

Here are the details on the orphanage that we are contributing to.
Hello all:)

I have recently returned to Boulder from living and going to school in Cape Town, South Africa. While I was down in Cape Town I was volunteering at an 40 child orphanage called Emasithandane in a township outside of Cape Town called Nyanga. At Emasi I taught an 'after school' class for the children ages 7-14 who lived at Emasi as well as neighborhood kids. These children were incredible. They came to the after school program on their own accord and were always so excited to learn. The townships of South Africa are extreme and these children have a resilience that is deserves to be addressed. Emasi along with another orphanage called Bapumelele, which has 100 children, are supported by a non-profit here in the states called CHOSA (children of South Africa) as well as a few other programs working with the children of the townships.

To learn more about CHOSA- I encourage you all to check out their website www.CHOSA.org.

When I left South Africa and the children of Emasi, I knew that I wanted to help in some way- and low and behold a fundraiser for CHOSA was manifested with the amazing support of the Boulder community.

The fundraiser is called UBUNTU- I am because we are.
